Lake Vembanad is Kerala’s largest body of water dominates the Backwaters; it lies between Alappuzha and Kochi and is more than 200 km² in area. The most important of Kerala’s forty-four rivers include the Periyar (244 km), the Bharathapuzha (209 km), the Pamba (176 km), the Chaliyar (169 km), the Kadalundipuzha (130 km), the Valapattanam (129 km) and the Achankovil (128 km). The average length of the rivers of Kerala is 64 km. Most of the rivers are small and fed by monsoon rains. Its rainfall averages 3,107 mm annually.

The popular tourist attractions in the state include the beaches at Kovalam, Cherai, Varkala, Kappad, Muzhappilangad and Bekal; the hill stations of Munnar, Nelliampathi, Ponmudi and Wayanad; and national parks and wildlife sanctuaries at Periyar and Eravikulam National Park. The “backwaters” region, which comprises an extensive network of interlocking rivers, lakes, and canals that center on Alleppey, Kollam, Kumarakom, and Punnamada (where the annual Nehru Trophy Boat Race is held in August). Heritage sites such, as the Padmanabhapuram Palace and the Mattancherry Palace are also popular. Cities such as Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram are popular centers for their shopping and traditional theatrical performances. During early summer, the Thrissur Pooram is conducted that attracts foreign tourists who visit here for the charm of decorated elephants, celebration and festival. The main pilgrimages of Kerala include Sabarimala Temple, Chettikulangara Temple, Vadakumnathan Temple, Guruvayoor Temple, Malayattor Church and Parumala Church.

Munnar, Kerala: It is a famous hill station of Kerala wedged between the Lakshadweep Sea and the Western Ghats. It has the humid equatorial tropic climate. The state has a coast of length 590 kms. Anamudi is the highest peak at an elevation of 2,695 meters (8,130 ft).

Most of its biodiversity is concentrated and protected in the Agasthyamalai Biosphere Reserve in the eastern hills. Almost one fourth of India’s 10,000 plant species are found in Kerala. Among the almost 4,000 flowering plant species are 900 species of highly sought medicinal plants. Its 9,400 km² of forests include tropical wet evergreen and semi-evergreen forests.

Kerala’s music also has ancient roots. Carnatic music dominates Keralite traditional music. Elephants are an integral part of daily life in Kerala. These Indian elephants are loved, revered, groomed and given a prestigious place in the state’s culture. The predominant language spoken in Kerala is Malayalam. DuringOnam, Keralites create floral pookkalam designs in front of their houses.

The culture of Kerala is derived from both a Tamil-heritage region known as Tamilakam and southern coastal Karnataka. Later, Kerala’s culture was elaborated upon through centuries of contact with neighboring and overseas cultures. Its native performing arts include koodiyattom (a 2000 year old Sanskrit theatre tradition, officially recognised by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity), kathakali—from katha (“story”) and kali (“performance”)—and its offshoot Kerala natanam, Kaliyattam -(North Malabar special), koothu (akin to stand-up comedy), mohiniaattam (“dance of the enchantress”), Theyyam, thullal NS padayani. Both Kathakali and Mohiniattam are the widely recognized two Indian Classical Dance traditions from Kerala. Traditional dress of Kerala consists a set-sari for Malayali woman and Malayali man wears mundu with a shirt. Jainism has a considerable following in the Wayanad district. Buddhism was dominant at the time of Ashoka the Great but vanished by the 8th century CE. It has witnessed significant migration of its people, especially to the Persian Gulf countries. Other forms of art are more religious or tribal in nature. These include chavittu nadakom, oppana that combines dance, rhythmic hand clapping, and ishal vocalisations. Margam Kali is one of the ancient round group dance practiced by Syrian Christians of Kerala. However, many of these art forms largely play to tourists or at youth festivals, and are not as popular among most ordinary Keralites. These people look to more contemporary art and performance styles, including those employing mimicry and parody.

ABOUT VOLUNTEER OVERSEAS

It is pleasure to inform that our association with Saraswati Education Center started in 2009 that was established by our Varanasi affiliate Somit Dutta in 2004. He is a Yoga teacher in Varanasi by profession, but his passion to work for underprivileged children inspired him to form his charitable firm with the aim of providing free education to the poor children who are supporting their families by selling odd stuff on the banks of river Ganga at tender age. Our team, in the leadership of Somit conducts survey every six months to identify poor children residing in the nearby localities and encourage them and their families to join free education camp where volunteers educate them in the best of their capabilities. Our volunteers help us to raise funds, donations, provide their quality time and ideas to grow in the right direction. The children we target are very poor, most of them are street children, orphans, some of them doing menial works to support their extremely poor families and some of them are even in drug addiction. We welcome all of these children to our Varanasi centre.

ABOUT SOMIT

Somit Kumar Dutta is a Yoga teacher by profession who teaches yoga and spirituality. He specializes in Yoga with 12 years of experience and teaches yoga along with Ayurveda, astrology, music, Indian cuisine and language classes etc. He owns two yoga centers overseas and the name of his society is mentioned in Japanese and Korean travel guide books. Somit suffered lot of difficulties in his childhood. A son of poor parents had to sleep without food sometimes. In the face of acute poverty, his parents somehow managed to send him school. At the age of 9 years, he had to quit school as his parents were not able to pay fees along with 6 more kids of his age. That was the day when the seed of social work roped in him. Having got financial support from some charitable organization, he completed his basic education; he started to work for street children providing free education and other facilities so that he may help some tender lives to lead a life with smile.

HOW DO WE HELP VOLUNTEERING IN INDIA ?

Our center works in morning and evening shifts. Our volunteers teach poor children formal subjects such as Hindi, English, Maths, Science, General Knowledge, and moral education etc. In addition to that we provide games, drawing and various activities to make learning fun for children that are also helpful to boost their confidence and self-esteem. We operate from an informal space where we treat children as family members and assist them to learn at their own pace. Our foreign volunteers impart English speaking and etiquette lessons along with maintaining some basic hygienic practices. We also teach children about the importance of environment and make them sensitive towards the same. We do regular exercise of planting tree by the tender hands. We believe in imparting practical education where the use of books is minimized to the required level. We do also provide food to the children during education sessions from time to time and at regular intervals. We do also organize health care program where qualified doctor inspects the children every month. Our mission is to make these children self reliant so that they may lead a respectful life and grow as good human being.

Thank you for taking the time to visit our website and this page. We sincerely appreciate it. We are basically tour operator in India. Having gained twelve years of experience in travel, tourism and hospitality industries working at different levels of management hierarchy, we (Anil and Rakesh) started our travel company around five years back when we started showing the tourists popular destinations in India. Later we discovered a friend in Varanasi named Somit, a Yoga teacher, who was also doing welfare activities for poor children in his locality in Varanasi at micro level. He approached us to cater the travel requirements of his foreign volunteers who were interested to see India also during their volunteer work with Somit. We were impressed with Somit’s dedication and hard work towards working for the welfare of underprivileged children with the financial support of some foreign volunteers. His passion inspired us to assist him in the best possible way at our level that is how we associated with each other for two year. Now he is our trusted affiliate in Varanasi and we assist each other in the best of our capabilities.

At present we do arrange volunteer trip also along with our travel venture. Somit takes care of all volunteering needs and activities of visiting travelers in Varanasi and we do arrange other travel requirements. It is just the beginning where we do assist volunteers in Varanasi only, but we do have plans for expanding to other cities in India also. We are still learning to give our best based on volunteers suggestions and feedback from hundreds of volunteers, local organizations, host families and local people. Whatever the little progress we have made within a span of two years that encouraged us to explore more destinations. We are selecting more destinations that are safe and culturally rich where volunteers can make meaningful contributions. In each destination, we are carefully selecting projects, host families, travel coordinating staff and local support staff.

In this process we plan to provide them extensive training to manage highly professional services with love and respect for all volunteers. We are committed to following our vision and mission of establishing effecting and rewarding volunteer tours within few years. It is our sincere hope that we have something that will appeal to your serving heart and adventurous spirit. We look forward to welcoming you soon!

Sincerely
Anil, Rakesh, Somit

LADAKH AT A GLANCE

Ladakh India is renowned for its mountain beauty and culture. The Ladakh Festival is held every year from 1st to 15 September. At present Ladakh consists of two districts — Leh and Kargil. In 1885, Leh India became the headquarters of a mission of the thankas’, Moravian Church. Buddhist monasteries sporting prayer flags, display of archery competitions, a mock marriage, and horse-polo are the some highlights of this festival. The most popular sport in Ladakh is ice hockey, which is played only on natural ice in January.

In northernmost part of India, Ladakh is nestled between the Himalayan and Karakoram mountain ranges and is one of the most magical places on earth. It is also known as the land of high passes, the Moon Land and the Last Shangri-la to describe Ladakh’s remote beauty. It shares much of its history, culture and religion with Tibet and has become home to many Tibetans and is sometimes referred to as ‘Little Tibet’. It averages 3500 m in altitude with a population of around 2, 50,000 and is one of the most remotely inhabited places on the planet. The great Himalayan range acts as a barrier to rain clouds, only a few creep across their awesome height. As a result Ladakh’s landscape has barren beauty beyond belief.

Ladakh has an other worldly feel with impressive Gonpas perched on soaring hilltops, ancient buildings clinging to sheer rock walls and ridges that seem to reach to the heavens, tower above vibrant green farm land in the valleys, a panoramic view of jagged peaks disappearing in the horizon from the top of passes, the plains of Changthang-where Nomads (Changpas) grazed their Yaks and Pashmina goats on the high pastures and beautiful lakes blessed to wildlife in this mountain desert. The region becomes predominantly Buddhist while traveling from Srinagar to Leh.

Trekking is one of the fascinating attractions of the Ladakh region. We at Travinfoindia undertake complete operation of trekking tours in Indian Himalaya and in particular, Ladakh such as hygienic food on trek, high quality camping equipments, professional kitchen crew, qualified and well experienced guides, hotel accommodation transportation with personalized services.

It is located at a distance of 434 kms from Srinagar and 474 kms from Manali. It is the capital of the Himalayan kingdom of Ladakh in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, India. Tsemo Gompa temple is the mainBuddhist center in Leh.
Hemis Monastery: Hemis monastery, a leading centre of the Drukpa tradition of Buddhism, holds an annual masked dance festival. Thikse Monastery, King Bhagan reunited and strengthened Ladakh and founded the Namgyal dynasty, which survives even today. In the early 17th century efforts were made to restore destroyed artifacts and gompas, and the kingdom expanded into Zanskar and Spiti.

This Chadar trek allsow you to penetrate this isolation and to examine some of the villages along the Zanskar River in the midst of winter and thus catch a glimpse of the lifecycle during this unique time of the year. A visit to the ancient monastic establishment of Karsha and Zangla promises to heighten your insight into the mysteries of this Shangri-la, a land and culture frozen in time behind the ramparts of the Zanskar mountains. Chilling and Linghshed are the only sizeable villages on this trek until hanamur and Pidmo before pishu and Zangla in Zanskar, all the rest are names of places and caves along the route.

After her untimely death, Shah Jehan had her mortal remains buried in this mausoleum then after his death; he was also placed to rest next to his queen in the same mausoleum. Planning and construction for the Taj started in 1634 and continued for over two decades. Taj Mahal has been a visual delight for viewers over the ages. The monument looks its best on clear full moon nights. It looks its spectacular best in the full moon nights of October, when the skies are clear and the Taj is bathed in the off-white moonlight. However, it is a delight even in the radiance of dawn and the orange glow of sunset. The Taj Mahal in all its timeless beauty is still the inspiration of poets and painters, writers and photographers. It is rated one among the seven wonders and new seven wonders in the world. It remains closed for visitors on Friday.

Shahjahan modeled his creation, the Red Fort at Delhi on this fort. The Agra fort happens to be on the same bank of the river Yamuna as the Taj Mahal, which is visible in all its beauty from one side of the fort. So very ironically, Shahjahan, a prisoner of his son Aurangzeb in his old age was put in a cell from where he could gaze at the Taj Mahal at a distance, from his cell in the Agra Fort. The fort has four gates and is enclosed by a double barricaded wall of red sand stone. Many buildings were constructed within the fort of which very few remain till date.
